The Perfect Printer For Green-Fingered Gardeners

The Brother GL-200 Label Printer can be used for general labeling purposes but it is produced for gardeners and horticulturists.  It’s typically for the shed, labeling containers, tool racks, seed trays, potted plants, fertilizer and pesticide containers, storage racks and just about anything else you can think of.

This printer can print on 6mm, 9mm and 12mm width labels from Brother’s range of TZ tape cartridges. The labels are fade resistant in rain, sunshine, extreme temperatures, chemicals, humidity, oil and abrasion. You have the options of printing black on a white label; or florescent and transparent backing and even a matte finish; plus strong adhesive types and the flex ID in the non-laminated range. These labels are attractive because of the combinations of character and tape color. There are five fancy borders to choose from plus many styles such as shadow, outline, italic, bold or any combination of them.

The printer can be powered with a mains adapter (Model AD24) or six AAA batteries, neither of which is included. Other accessories that you can order are the replacement cutter blade (TC-5) and a tape separator tool.  The case can be transported in your pocket or on a belt loop.

The GL-200 has an alphabetical keyboard instead of a QWERTY layout and you can include up to 12 6mm high characters in just one line. A total of 83 symbols can be easily accessed by selecting the Symbols key and scrolling through the groups by pressing the Symbols key.

Helsinki is the only font available with three basic sizes. The labels can be printed in one or two lines of text. The mirror image can be used for the transparent labels. This GL-200 can print upright labels with the vertical option.

Labels can be detached with the manual tape cutter and has a sensor that reports errors if the tape does not correctly retract due to long use and adhesive residue built up. This printer can print at a speed of 10mm/sec with a resolution of 180 dots per inch.

With a single stroke of a key the date and time can be stamped. By pressing the Function (F) key you can set the clock, calendar plus many other features. After pressing the F key you can scroll through the options with the left/right arrow keys. The clock will keep time even without batteries or adaptor. This printer also has a 9 label or 300 character memory, but it will not print barcodes.  The GL-200 will print serial numbering which allows one digit increments from 0-9.

One of the helpful features is the Preview which scrolls through what you have typed and shows the length of the label. It also has the feature of “chain” printing which is printing more than one copy of a label.  The semicolon represents where the printer will cut the labels.  In order to feed out a blank label you have to press the F key and scroll the options.
